Safety & Sustainability for All

The Heart of the Matter

When I was young, I watched violence tear through our community. Families destroyed. Futures cut short. Neighborhoods that never fully recovered. I couldn’t just stand by.

That’s why I joined the Gainesville Police Explorer program at 16. That’s why I spent five years on the Black on Black Crime Task Force. That’s why I started Fortitude Security. Public safety isn’t an abstract policy issue for me—it’s personal.

My Commitment

A Community Safe for All

I’ve learned that real public safety isn’t just about enforcement—it’s about building the kind of community where violence doesn’t take root in the first place:

  • Community-oriented policing – officers who know the neighborhoods they serve and are known in return
  • Prevention programs – intervention before violence happens, not just response after
  • Strong partnerships – between law enforcement, community organizations, and the people they serve
  • Mental health resources – because so many crises begin with untreated illness or addiction
  • Adequate resources – our officers need the staffing and support to do their jobs well
  • Addressing root causes – poverty and lack of opportunity are the soil where violence grows

Growth That Sustains

As our city grows, we must ensure that growth doesn’t outrun our ability to support it:

  • Long-term planning for land use and transportation
  • Smart growth that puts density where infrastructure can support it
  • Green spaces preserved in every development
  • Infrastructure that keeps pace with our needs

A Community Where Everyone Belongs

As Chairman of the City of Gainesville Equal Opportunity Office, I’ve worked to build a community where every person is treated with dignity:

  • Policies that advance equity and opportunity
  • Dialogue that builds understanding across difference
  • Programs that address disparities in education, health, and economic opportunity
  • Leadership that reflects the diversity of our community

The Bottom Line

Every family deserves to feel safe. Every generation deserves to inherit a healthy environment. Every person deserves to be treated with dignity. These aren’t competing values—they’re the foundation of a community worth living in. That’s what I’ll fight for.
